Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Respect and dignity for all people. Especially Vulnerable adults even mildly vulnerable Adults with Learning difficulties and Disabilities. Adults who leave social services care can struggle with severe issues. Need space to rest on own or with support family friends. Many artist display vulnerable emotions find it very difficult around non creative people leading to anxiety job loss; not always.

Those so able to interact should be able to do so freely and those that need or like support own time should be able to do so.

The entire point of computer age was exactly for this not to keep earning profit for the bossess but to distribute it.

There are a great many people who suffer illness that are not covered under any form of sickness benefit due to the “common case” being that the illness isn’t severe.

By having a basic income, such situations would not exist. You could be your own judge of your own capability to work. And in the event that you are not capable of work, you can at least have your very basic needs fulfilled by a basic income scheme.

I believe basic income is the only solution to the automation revolution.

Basic income is the single greatest change we can make as a society that will have the widest possible positive effects across all of society.

It’s time people didn’t have to spend their lives worrying about their bills. It’s time to change everything

I think it is a basic human right to have access to food and shelter. It is a good way to inject money into the economy and provide a safety net for the imminent lack of jobs due to automation within the work place. It is responding on a social level to the problem that the nature of work is changing. I see it as a positive move towards a fairer future for humanity.

As a person with a mental health condition, made into a disbility by an unequal and discriminatory society, I’ve been forced to fight off FIVE health-jeopardising austerity attacks from the Department of Work and Pensions in the last five years, with more to follow. Scrapping the current godawful misery-&-death-bringing benefits system in favour of Universal Basic Income would be a breath of fresh for all of the UK’s persons with disabilities.

It can pay my mortgage and bills, leaving me to invest my own income in my pension pot.

Everyone will be better at their job if they aren’t obliged to earn money to survive. There is too much bureaucracy in the welfare system, the process of trying to restrict benefits to ‘worthy’ applicants is a waste of money that could just be given freely.

I think Universal Basic Income will reduce poverty and homelessness, help plan for job losses due to automation, support low paid and unpaid workers such as carers and volunteers and simplify the welfare system, giving everyone dignity and freedom of choice.

End poverty. Lower stress (and thereby strokes, anxiety, blood pressure etc…) Increase happiness. Reduced stress on the NHS. Enable all to have a mortgage and buy a house instead of forever renting. Allow all to be able to afford University and become things we desperately need, like doctors, nurses and teachers.
