Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

I endorse basic income because I believe it will empower everybody in ways we’ve never seen before. The reason for political apathy and poverty are all linked to a lack of income, and introducing a basic income could massively alleviate many people’s day to day stresses. I also setup http://automationwatch.org which I am actively using to promote the idea of basic income on a daily basis.

I strongly believe it to be the only viable route for society in the face of ever-increasing wealth inequality.

I have a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and have been pushed from one so called benefit to another. They are all awarded reluctantly without dignity from a welfare system that does not care about the welfare of recipients but about targets to lower numbers claiming set by government. Universal Basic Income would alleviate the worry of having to find unsuitable work that could trigger a mental health condition.

I have heard too many testimonies and experienced too much about how the current social security system causes a lot of suffering. The conditionality and time limit rules aren’t doing people any good. Basic Income seems to be a great way forward. The details need working out, because it should be partially means-tested (but only conditional on the amount of existing income, not how you are earning that money or what you are doing to search for a job). This means the more money you make the less financial support you get from the state. It’s only fair.

to give hope to disabled people that might only be able to work 1 or 2 days a week, and give them a future, they just don’t have with the benefits trap.

I believe it would introduce greater “spending power” to those who struggle to make ends meet.

I think it is the way forward. I work with clients who are stigmatised for being on benefits. I also think we have our work life balance all wrong

It would cost only an extra 1% of GDP to run this much more effective model that would end all right wing scapegoating of benefit scroungers and vilification of the poor in our society. It would free up labour, make work more about committing to a fulfilling and meaningful duty that can add to society, reduce work related stress and enable companies to automate more, driving up much needed productivity. It would also free low earners to spring forth and start their own companies, become entrepreneurs or even find their calling in higher education creating a more skilled, more high tech, and more creatively diverse workforce. Frankly, everyone wins – except for the bureaucrats who were kinda a**holes anyway ¬_¬

I really don’t want my children to grow up to believe that money is what the makes the world go round like i was taught. for me Basic Income is a good step towards removing money from this planet.

For a fair and just society Basic Income iOS the way to go.

I work in Welfare Rights and the injustice of the benefit system is something I deal with on a daily basis. People should never be left with nothing to live on , which is what is happening under the current system . I know because the benefit system is getting more and more draconian that if I lost my job tomorrow I would struggle to survive . If there was a basic income there would be less depravation.

I believe we’ll need it soon – major industries are about to be disrupted by automation (transport for instance, with self -driving vehicles).
