Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Without it very soon most people will starve – Amazon have just opened an automated high street shop – no staff at all – it is the future.

I honestly believe this is the future of society. Providing a basic income is a fair society which will encourage creativity and provide more people to make an attempt at their passion in life rather than having the fear of having to keep food on the table.

more disposable income for the poor to spend will go straight back in to the british economy plus the added incentive of added income from work on top its a win win

With the rise in automation a basic income will be a necessity. It’s also a good way of becoming a tool for redistribution of wealth away from the one percent.

To fight poverty, give people a chance to live a normal live and a solution to capitalism.

The present system does not work, discourages people from working and costs a fortune – use the money to give all people a level of security on equal terms with each other, plus the freedom to work more or be creative in whatever way instead!

I work with people in receipt of benefits, and people in work on low incomes. I think a basic income would be good for all of us, and it would take away the stigma around claiming benefits

    Good idea.

Because I think it is an absolute disgrace that my state pension was not forthcoming when I reached 60 and I have to wait more than five more years to receive it. UBI would make a huge difference to me and many others in my position for example.

We, and the generations that preceded us, all built the wealth that we enjoy. Time to share it fairly, the start of rebuilding our economy and society

It will eliminate poverty, reduce crime, allow people to have the freedom to follow their dreams, eliminate homelessness + a whole host of other fantastic benefits to society.

It is the only way forward for capitalism in the 21st century.

Capitalism will fail if a universal basic income is not implemented in the near future.

Having befriended and tried to help a number of people on benefits through unemployment or ill health, the biggest problems they have are when benefits are withheld due to bureaucracy, sickness note expiring etc. etc. Give everyone a basic income so they do not need to claim any benefit normally when unemployed or sick. It would be a huge confidence booster. It doesn’t even need to be a net cost – just eliminate the personal allowance and existing benefit (universal credit), and the cost will be covered by higher tax take.

Also for people on low incomes, knowing that money they gain through work will just be taxed the same as everybody else is much better than tapering benefits at 60%+ giving them little incentive to work.

I support a basic income because I feel trapped in a job I do not enjoy and which is causing me tremendous stress, just to pay the bills. I would much rather do charitable work with animals or helping the LGBT community and have more time to work on my artistic projects, but the current economics of the UK do not allow this. With a basic income, I and everyone else would have an opportunity to live fuller, more meaningful, and more fulfilling lives.

Besides the obvious resolution to poverty in the UK Removing the need for work to survive provides three direct benefits:

Employers will no longer have leverage over their staff and will be forced to treat them fairly and with dignity.

Removal of cut-throat competition in the work force will dramatically decrease feelings of isolation, loss of control which lead to the alt-right Xenophobia and racism rising across the world.

Automation will no longer receive a stigma as a livelihood destroyer, but a job emancipator.

From this automation we remove the jobs which provide no fulfilment in life, causing untold mental health issues, and will free people to work on projects of passion. From art to engineering, we will be able to move the world towards a brighter future.
