Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Besides the obvious resolution to poverty in the UK Removing the need for work to survive provides three direct benefits:

Employers will no longer have leverage over their staff and will be forced to treat them fairly and with dignity.

Removal of cut-throat competition in the work force will dramatically decrease feelings of isolation, loss of control which lead to the alt-right Xenophobia and racism rising across the world.

Automation will no longer receive a stigma as a livelihood destroyer, but a job emancipator.

From this automation we remove the jobs which provide no fulfilment in life, causing untold mental health issues, and will free people to work on projects of passion. From art to engineering, we will be able to move the world towards a brighter future.

Jobs are being replaced by machines and robots, which is a positive, progressive step for our world, but people should not suffer because of advancements in technology. I believe we will be smarter, happier, more creative, better parents and society overall will benefit from everybody having the basic means to live. I believe that everyone deserves a safe place to live, clothes and food and these should not be a constant worry.

So many reasons… boils down to logic though. For me a universal basic income with some sensible tiering would cost a lot less than the immeasurably cumbersome benefits system. I could go on but my research leads me here and I’m not sure humanity has any choice but to move away from the “factory job" model anymore. Technology will make labour redundent soon enough. What will the uneducated majority do if there are no menial jobs going? Vote to leave planet earth? Elect the next Stalin? We have to start growing up soon… basic income is a solid, easy to implement first step towards our species becoming adult.

To give the poor the dignity that “trickle down capitalism” failed to. To provide people the safety net to plan long term in order to develop in any way required.

I think that there will not be any jobs in a few years time with automated machines taking over many jobs. There will have to be a basic incomega or there will be social upheaval. I am 60 next year female and single. Also, without work. I have to sign on and it is a miserable experience. They have put up the female retirementioned age to sixty-six. I have a lot of hobbies with a

I believe it’s the best option moving into the future. Automation will swallow a lot of manual work and there will be too many people for the jobs that are available. Plus it’s fairer than the current system.

I support UBI because the current Welfare/Benefits system is broken. It is predicated on demonisation (through the media) of the poor and disadvantaged and a “no” culture which relies on people having the drive and energy to appeal decision against a tide of bureaucracy. Most benefits could be scrapped in favour of UBI which would be cheaper to administer and would remove a great deal of fear and anxiety from the working population and address poverty.

I have many reasons for supporting the basic income, but primarily I want to support a big idea that could help alleviate poverty and reduce inequality: by replacing a welfare system that punishes poor people for their lack of resources.

A universal basic income allows everyone regardless if employed or not to pursue dreams and ambitions without having to worry too much if you need enough money to live comfortably and travel which benefits society all together & helps elimination anti social behavior plus encourages unity between people as people are no longer manipulated by lies which cause conflicts between different groups of people.
