Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

It will create a means for everyone to work by freeing up more jobs as people can afford to lower their current commitments, ergo be able to spend time with family or on interests which makes all happier resulting in less demand on health and social care. And more.

Universal Basic Income has the potential to be a safety net for the most economically vulnerable in our society. At the same time it can provide a stimulus to the economy which will see jobs created and the cost of living fall, it will bring increased tax revenues in to both national and local government coffers and enable thousands of people to adopt a better work/life balance. It is a fair and sensible way of dealing with the changes and challenges facing the 21st century workforce.

The current welfare system would be a joke if it wasn’t so stigmatising, stressful, and inefficient. Being treated like a potential fraud from the beginning, having to share my medical history with a private, US-owned firm, justifying each of my actions and inactions just for the means to continue living – claiming welfare is both dehumanising and disempowering. Basic income is an elegant, non-discriminating solution to the problems of unemployment (for whatever reason) and poverty.

It seems fairer than the current system. I have also had to used the flawed jobseeker system once in the past and it does not work. It punishes those that genuinely look for work and those that don’t want work know the system well enough to get round it.

It’s both fair and practical – it will massively reduce the cost of taking care of the people who need it.

To eradicate need and poverty,to give all citizens access to basic necessities including food and shelter and the means to heat their homes and to allow our children a future of their choice whereby they are no longer forced to be wage slaves but can explore their potential and be free to follow their own path in life no longer constrained by economic necessities and chains. That is my vision, a society no longer ruled by capitalist economy,I see the basic income as a step in that direction and that is why I support it.

I believe a basic income would change our perception of other people and would be a step to eradicate poverty forever.
