Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

I have worked in homelessness and housing for 20+ years and see this basic income as a means to end the hopelessness and desperation experienced by so many individuals and families.

I have supported this idea since first learning about it in economics classes over 30 years ago.

It’s ridiculous that we allow people to suffer in poverty in our society. Our welfare system does not work, is over complex, expensive to run and punishes our most vulnerable people. It’s based on an outdated ethos, the system and the ethos has to be reformed.

To simplify the system & make it fair, stop people falling through the net & stop poverty.

It will liberate people, and with the free time to do what one really has a passion for, the world will improve a whole lot more. Especially for those who work from the heart.

I believe giving people this basic financial safety net, enabling people more scope to persue a more satisfying career, will in turn boost the economy as well as improve the mental health (a huge financial cost to the country) & in turn the physical health of people in Britain.

We need to end poverty for all. I think it will help those could could try to do more, and protect those who can’t help themselves.

We need to urgently evaluate how to distribute wealth/income as the cuurent system of rewarding labour becomes untenable due to the rise of automation and AI. UBI would seem to be an obvious part of that process.

I completely support the ideology of being able to provide for everyone. The idea of encouraging each and everyone’s independence, allowing them to make their own decision of how they wish to live their life. The heuristic approach of enhancing people’s lives by giving them the opportunity to make a better future, for themselves.

Because in the 21st century poverty should be eradicated. Because everyone deserves to live the life they want regardless of background. Because the current benefits system isn’t working to truly benefit those in need.

Escape from wage tyranny and the redress of work life balance. Enabling people to enjoy life whatever the circumstances they were born into.

I believe it is absolutely essential to prepare for future lack of employment and I also believe that everyone should be given a basic income from which they can organise their lives. Mental health is destroyed by uncertainty about income, housing etc

Given the precarious nature of many people’s jobs and the lack of hours to go round, this seems like a fair solution and would give those with caring responsibilities and fluctuating illnesses more security also. More people would be able to spend time starting a new venture, helping out friends and neighbours or doing somethin they care about. This idea’s time has come.
