Unison NDC Basic Income Fringe Meeting

UNISON West Midlands Community branch invites you to a fringe meeting to discuss Universal Basic Income (UBI) from a trade union perspective. All are welcome, not just Conference attendees.

A UBI is a regular and unconditional payment made to everybody, to provide a secure foundation on which to build a balanced life of work, study, caring, volunteering, entrepreneurship... or simply protecting your health. It is being trialed in Europe, Africa and N. America, with talks underway about a pilot in Scotland.

This idea is increasingly being discussed by powerful decision makers and influencers. It is critically important that the trade union movement engage with this debate and propose a version that will benefit our communities the most, and is funded by the richest in society. Unite, the GMB and the TUC have already adopted UBI as official policy, and it is also part of the Welfare Charter.

Universal basic sandwiches and refreshments provided free of charge - first come first served!

*** At National Delegate Conference please SUPPORT West Midlands region's motion on UBI, which is Motion 50, and OPPOSE Amendment 50.1 ***
