Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

I think its an idea that if implemented properly could change the U.K. forever in a positive way, some people think it will reduce the incentive to work on the contrary it would increase employment as you can’t really live souly on £5,000 a year so we would have to work part time which is good as it means we would be still paying our dues to society while at the same time being able to pursue passions we may have or learning a new skill or maybe spending more time with loved ones. As human beings we all deserve the basics if nothing else a home for are own space, money to live on and clothing no matter what anyone says that’s is essential and every last human on this planet is entitled to that. People talk about how we afford this well my idea would be to make us all equall so we could make celebrities chip in as they have more money than we could ever earn if we work 80 years none stop, we could also tax the rich and make sure the government are not being paid ridiculous sums of money for just sitting around making decisions on our behalf.

I believe that everyone should have the right to food, heating and a roof over their head. The current system, and the old means tested system, leaves people in poverty and forces people into low paid work.

I believe stay at home mothers/fathers should be paid for their labour. I believe family carers should be paid for their labour. I believe the UBI will improve labour rights in the workplace. I believe it will reduce depression, anxiety, educational inequality, gender inequality and social inequality.

I firmly believe Basic Income has a vital role to play as our global economy shifts, likely exponentially quickly, towards an automated, AI economy with fewer jobs and every higher profits.
Not only will BI be an essentially component in the transition of the labour market and in protecting those who are displaced by an ever automated economy, but is ultimately a way to improve and enrich the lives of all citizens. Humans have always, ultimately, been striving to produce more for less, and we are becoming incredibly good at it. Every citizen should benefit from this achievement; BI is one of the fairest ways to ensure that they will.

Imho, many more things need to happen before UBI can be successfully introduced into this country (and elsewhere). Yours for moving on, Colin ( www.ideasofchange.com )

PS But, at least, this campaign is bringing ‘thinking outside of the box’ into the mainstream!

It is the same level of obstruction that blocks me now that has always blocked me. I believe that when the essential stuff is covered that most people will increase their capacity to either earn , volunteer, study or become entrepreneurs. It should appeal to left, right, gingerbread and academic. If my essentials are near guaranteed, I and other like me will make the world a better place.

I feel as though the current structure of the employment system is massively flawed, in that a majority of people are in not in jobs that they want to be in or are a particularly good fit for the role leading to horrid ineptitude, from ground level to managerial positions. With a basic income people will be able to begin to fund themselves in a project of personal interest which, in theory, has the potential to grow, making a basic income not only a tempory measure but also a comfortable safety net to fall back on. Overall it’ll work to bring comfort and ease of mind for society to grow on ideas personal to each individual contained within it.

To replace a negative system that encourages the ‘Great British’ taxpayer to see anyone on benefit as a scrounger. Artificial intelligence is going to have a major impact on the job prospects of our sons and daughters and we cannot leave it to corporations and politicians to address this problem alone.
