Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

I think the current UK benefit system does not work and is so difficult for so many people to access who really need it. Basic income would mean everyone could focus on what they want to do without needing to worry about surviving.

It would help me do what I really love to do, I would like to live in a world where is the motivation to work is not fear of survival and/or a sense of duty but comes from a pure desire to love and express our true self passions, and desires and the UBI would help that!

Because I have witnessed first hand the demeaning nature of the welfare benefits system!

I have attended four ATOS assessments and was forced to look for work, unsuitable for my long term mental health condition. Basic Income is the safety net that would enable people who do not subscribe to the ‘Arbeid macht Frei’ school of thought to survive and possibly thrive in the future. Compulsory Work is not the panacea for all ills.

With experience of the benefits system and changing many jobs the system is totally outdated and inadequate for the purpose. A Basic Income would not only cut out all the bureaucracy, but allow people to choose to work part-time, temp, study or self employ without the ridiculous current benefit ordeal and allow everybody a more fulfilling lifestyle.

It would afford people who just work and sleep(not through choice)to make ends meet and pay the rent, the chance to have some down time/do other things apart from work/get creative etc…depression and stress rates would drop substantially i would say

We are citizens who should share in the wealth we all help create. This would de stress so many people – freeing us a bit to do things other than always work. It would add to human happiness and what could be more important?

I feel that basic income would make everything fair. The current system favours those that know how to cheat it and i feel the ones that truly need it the help done get it. This would be the fairest way to ensure that everyone has the same financial help made available regardless. It will also ensue less Ill feeling amongst people from long term jobless

Artificial Intelligence will displace many jobs at many levels of expertise in the next decades. People will need a breathing space to enable them to re-skill and get back into employment. UBI enables this.

I believe it would be needed in the coming decades because jobs will become scarce because artificial intelligence will supplant us. It is currently needed now because we work only to pay our bills, we work but we don’t get our fair share.

I think that the future is looking very uncertain due to Artificial Intelligence set to take over manual jobs and that Jobseekers Allowance and other Unemployment Benefits or Disability Allowances in the UK are already impossible to live on making people and their mental and physical health suffer into early illness.

For these reasons alone I feel that a Universal Basic Income is not only a moral necessity but also in the 21st Century with so much upheaval and future turbulence not only in the jobs market but with all of the power struggles in Government and wider society suffering in austerity and the unknown future, it is a basic need that everyone should be given a solid base to live on.

What you do with your money is up to you, but everyone should be able to have the opportunity and access to their basic needs (food, heat, medication, dentistry, clothes, transport, toiletries, ect) and in this current climate that is almost impossible leading to suffering for many which a basic income would help to solve.

Basic necessities should not have to be earned. People should not worry about where their next meal will come from. If they don’t, they will do better work and it will benefit everyone.

It’s the right think to offset some of the inequalities of society. Having read Guy Standing’s book on Basic Income, I am convinced there is a real opportunity for this to happen in the UK. But the idea needs much more media attention, public understanding and political support.
