Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Unleash the creative potential of the individual. As Buckminster Fuller put it: “We should do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian Darwinian theory he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.”

We have the means to eradicate poverty and it’s the government’s duty to do this for their citizens. Giving free money not to just the poor, but to everyone is the most effective way of eradicating poverty.

I recently read “The Human Planet: How We Created The Anthropocene” by Simon L. Lewis and Mark A. Maslin. It recommends a basic income as a solution not only to social and political problems but environmental problems too. Having grown up in west/central Scotland I have seen how the current economic situation is affecting people in their pockets, in their environments and with regards to regards to their mental health. A Universal Basic Income might be the only hope in saving humanity and it’s habitat the planet we call Earth.

I believe UBI is the only way we can prepare our society for the impending loss of jobs to AI and robotics. It is also a solution to end poverty once and for all.

The existing system of discretionary benefits are often humiliating and degrading. The current system of continuous assessment for eligibility leads to uncertainty and stress for applicants. UBI would simplify the benefit system reducing bureaucracy and should all but eliminate benefit fraud. Taking into account potential improvements in health, reduction in bureaucracy and and the fact UBI would replace many existing benefits, the net cost should be affordable.

I want everyone to have the opportunity to thrive in life, whatever circumstances they are born into. Alleviating financial stress, especially for those born in poverty will go a long way in helping people in so many aspects of their lives.

Universal credit is a shambles, it can take up to 2 months to complete an application & people are starving or losing their homes. We need reform in this country, it’s absolutely obscene so many people are in poverty considering we are the 5th largest economy in the world.

The rich can still be rich but we need to encourage a society where the most vulnerable are cared for & we can all live comfortably with the resources we have at our disposal.

Everyone deserves to have a decent basic standard of living whatever their circumstances.
