Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

to move out of our current unworkable system we need a transformative set of ideas and i think that a debate about basic income and how we might achieve it ,is needed

Because the current system isn’t working, and a move to Universal Basic Income would help to reduce the number of people living in poverty due to complexity of claiming benefits and the delays in processing claims. UBI is a fair system, and seems to me to be the way forward. I’m following closely the trials in Europe.

To put a fair and healthy system in place rather than the disgustingly brutal system in current use, which stigmatises and damage the most vunerable in society

I have worked in homelessness and housing for 20+ years and see this basic income as a means to end the hopelessness and desperation experienced by so many individuals and families.

It’s ridiculous that we allow people to suffer in poverty in our society. Our welfare system does not work, is over complex, expensive to run and punishes our most vulnerable people. It’s based on an outdated ethos, the system and the ethos has to be reformed.

I believe giving people this basic financial safety net, enabling people more scope to persue a more satisfying career, will in turn boost the economy as well as improve the mental health (a huge financial cost to the country) & in turn the physical health of people in Britain.

We need to urgently evaluate how to distribute wealth/income as the cuurent system of rewarding labour becomes untenable due to the rise of automation and AI. UBI would seem to be an obvious part of that process.
