Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

This is something I’ve always wanted but simply didn’t think would ever happen. We, the public, would be free of basic concerns and able to make the world a better place by improving our communities, learning new skills, creating art, caring for the elderly, raising our children and everybody could stop rushing all day and just smell the roses.

if done right could emphasise the jobs that are actually required in society (teaching for example) whilst also encourage people to go into jobs they actually enjoy

We are about to see a revolution in work (see the bank of englands recent reports), basic income will be how democracy survives this change,

Everyone should be treated equal and valued. I believe a basic income would close the ever growing gap between the rich and the poor in the uk.

I work as a freelancer and I have a daughter who recently was in hospital for a couple of months with a serious unexpected brain condition and massive infection. Although my work is steady and I love my work, it would take the pressure off having to rush back after very frequent follow up hospital appointments and instead have a bit of family time with her and a treat to the pictures or shopping or whatever, which is something we can’t afford to do. She’s not working and I don’t get paid if I don’t work, which is fair enough. I don’t believe that everybody who would receive universal basic income would be disincentived to work however it would increase the amount of money splashed out in the high street.
