Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

I believe there is a rumble of revolution and UBI is the way forwards to a fairer, more equal, possibly greener credentials, and spiritually happy and content population no longer chasing fame and greed but finding more socially enhancing activities to spend our equal and valuable life gift of time.

The rise in food banks homelessness and zero hours contracts is proof that many people do not have enough to provide a decent standard of living

For the sick and disabled, new mothers and fathers, for more leisure time and less working hours for all, to focus on and develop individual talents, for a better life for all.

A much fairer country as we seem to be getting left behind with a system that is not fit for purpose.

To give people the opportunity to follow their own choice of career path through self employment. Basic Income could act as a very imporatant safety net or stepping stone to get them started while they build up a network of customers or clients Also, to offer people on low wage/ zero hours contracts a safety net and to give people protection against employers who are otherwise free to exploit their financial vulnerability, due to a harsh, unfair, humiliating and disfunctional welfare system that can drive people into homelessness or severe hardship and sometimes even suicide, out of desperation.

I have worked in a job centre and seen the needless bureaucracy of a system that neither supports those in need, nor incentivises work. Essential care work if often left to those with few other choices, as those best suited to it choose higher paying work in other fields. This is a solution that could work for the political right – by reducing bureaucracy and state intervention – and the left – by ensuring a safety net for those who need it.
