Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Both my partner and I work our asses of day in day out a and after paying rent to our landlord, council tax, gas, electric. We barely scrape by. But you have the unemployed who get housing benefit and council tax paid and get their benefit+ which are better off than us who work

I believe the time is right to debate whether a basic income reduces multiple inequalities.

In conjunction with a overhaul of the tax base, the universal basic income will be a crucial step towards providing economic security for all, and establishing a new conception of the commons, whereby every member of our society has the right to share in the wealth created by society. Such a policy will act as an engine not only of security, but of growth and innovation.

I think it makes sense, and it is fair. For those reasons I doubt that it will happen, but I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

I am still not clear about how it would be financed.

Mothers can care for their children, carers can care for their relatives, disabled can live with dignity, the unemployed can start their own business, we can have dignity from the stigma from being on benefits. No more sanctions, people can rest if they are sick, it makes sense on so many levels

There is a high unemployment rate in young people, and robotics will take many more jobs away in the coming years, so there is a great need to create more part time jobs, and with the basic income it would encourage both employers and employees to accept this drastic change, and create a fairer society for all.

To escape wage slavery, by opting for a minimalist life I could free up time working and spend it on my passions rather than my time being wasted in some useless company that I don’t care about.

In a world of ever increasing globalisation and automation the implementation of a basic income seems logical and necessary. Also, the current form of capitalism in our society has failed to distribute fairly the wealth it has generated.
