Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

As a sufferer of mental illness I cannot ride the same rollercoaster as other members of society, My ability to cope is limited but not completely obsolete, and with fears of failure not leading to losing everything in my life I could do at least something safe in the knowledge if i need some room….it would be there to support me…helping me and helping others.

I used to be on DLA and I’ve tried for PIP 3 times since Feb 2016 but get 0 points every time so for that reason and because I think everyone deserve an income that’s the reason sign this for

Simplification of the benefits system. Abolition of poverty. A chance to give young people the very best start in life without having to worry about finances.

This scheme would distribute welfare funds evenly and fairly, allowing hard workers to reduce hours and enjoy better quality of life, thereby creating more jobs to fill those hours. The extra money in people’s pockets could stimulate the economy by encouraging spending and reducing debt. The unemployed would have work opened up to them with the opportunity to take up education or start a business and the flexibility to take the hours appropriate to their circumstances rather than have to commit to full time work, which can be difficult for parents, carers or those with health problems. The even distribution of wealth would offer a safety net to all and avoid absolute poverty faced by many in the current climate. It could reduce crime and give confidence to people to seek out success.

Universal credit system causes hardship to 20% claimants per Sky TV news , have also read on line that Universal Credit is costly and is unfit for purpose . In next 10 years or so, majority of jobs will be lost to automation . Arrangements for a basic living amount need to made , now , to avoid mass poverty and all associated problems like crime/thefts – and loss of hope leading to mental health deterioration ( depression and so on).

I find it disgusting that any British citizen in 2018 is living in poverty. A Basic Income is an investment, as ending poverty benefits all of society.

Everyone should have the ability to make the best of themselves. Under the current benefits system, this is virtually impossible to do. A universal basic income makes this idea more of a reality.

To cut out all those complicated forms and admin that make it so difficult for anyone to claim benefits. The current benefits system needs to be demolished completely, and hopefully this can be a way forward.

I have had basic income in my home country when I first arrived after coming back and couple years later now I run my own business. I feel after living in the UK for more than 15 years and having been scholarised in the UK, I feel poverty is a real problem in the UK where many prefer shut their eyes on this aspect knowing that at a time i didn’t even have enough money to pay my bus fare to travel to college .

If we start by giving everyone an equal chance in life I am sure a great place like the UK could find it in its social system to provide for those in need an outstanding social welfare like their overseas neighbours

Basic income gives everyone the opportunity to make a life for themselves. A couple of hundred years ago the slave trade was abolished and we now look back and see that the trade was heading towards an inevitable demise. I see Basic Income as the next inevitable advancement in the human story, benefiting individuals, industry and governments alike. It is the natural response to our new world. I fully endorse this and wish to help nudge the process along in any small way I can.

It makes complete sense to me and would go so far to wipe out poverty. It would give control over our own lives back to the people not to the elite, life would be easier for those disadvantaged purely by birth and societies failings. It is the first step to a fairer world.
