Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Fairer system, less bureaucracy, more chance of people bettering themselves rather than being tied to a benefits system.

As a libertarian, i believe the welfare system and state is too complex and the bureaucracy of the Whitehall needs to be significantly reduced because the current system is largely ineffective. As a student at University too, it could help the living costs of students and many others. Economists Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek (both on the right) both supported some form of universal income, arguing it could prevent inequality in the capitalist system. Great idea and needs to be adopted ASAP.

I believe this is a far better (if only partial) solution to social inequality and poverty than most current welfare systems.

Give everybody a basic freedom to do what ’s right for them without having to rush into any full time slavery to survive

This would help eradicate poverty and provide opportunity for people to purse the work and interests that the enjoy, that could benefit society more in the long run, than jobs that pay the most, just so that they can survive.

It is the most effective means of redistributing economic power, eradicating extreme poverty and empowering individuals with the freedom to achieve their full potential . We are all stakeholders in our national economy and it follows that I see the basic income as a ’citizen’s dividend’.

A basic income will give people choice. Choice not to have to spend their lives in alienating and often pointless jobs, and free them up to pursue what they love. This will benefit everyone; improve mental health; reduce social ills and inequality; end the exploitation and humiliation of wage slavery, and offer security as work becomes automated or unncessary.

Just read Basic Income by Guy Standing. I had previously heard about the scheme through Labour Party/Green Party but Guy Standing writes v convincingly about the need for a basic income and how it might be introduced. I live in Stafford and will try to get to hear Guy speak at Biddulph which isn’t too far away.
