Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

AI is going to disrupt the job market to such an extent that basic income will become a must. It’s best we get ahead of the issue as soon as possible.

Always thought this a great idea a 1950swith no pension. Would give each person their own independence wouldn’t be like begging for anything and get rid of name calling. Everyone would be equal but could also realise their potential.

It makes for a fairer system for all and allows people to pursue worthwhile activities such as volunteering and caring for relatives, etc without the pressure to earn enough money to get by. Paid work for many people just isn’t enough to keep them afloat and in many areas there aren’t enough jobs for all the unemployed. This way everyone would have access to their basic needs and would still be able to work or complete other pursuits in their communities

The current benefits system is inhumane and too many desperately vulnerable people are being failed by it.

I support whatever will allow people to finally escape the poverty trapping so many into destroyed lives and horrendous health and mental health problems. A safety net should allow people to improve their lives and to have a basic standard of living which benefit systems simply do not even come close to.

For people to be able to make proactive life choices, to have a safety net and not had to struggle to eat.

I'm endorsing Basic Income UK's statement. Basic Income is desperately needed for society to progress fairly. In light of increasingly automated work, the shambles and danger of the current benefit system, and the cuts to vulnerable peoples' services, a Basic Income would give people support, a safety net, and the ability to make proactive choices about their futures.

We need a fairer system. The one we have at the moment is at worst killing people, att best leaving them impoverished and in despair. People enabled to flourish make for better societies. Basic Income is common sense. I want to be actively involved in making this a reality for the UK.

with the rise of technology many jobs will be lost at a pace where most people wont be able to keep up and as a result will need a basic income.

Apart from being indispensable for establishing a society based in cooperation instead of competition, it is an absolute necessity for the highly computerized world that is coming.
