Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Because it will reduce the stress, anxiety and bitterness that destabilises and brutalises society. Walking past homeless people and knowing there are poor children whose parents cannot give them basic needs desensitises the population, which is dangerous. Most of all, it gives something to everyone and brings everyone together in a common cause.

On a personal level I could have a more balanced life. On a wider level it could mean living in a more balanced society.

It would get me out of the poverty trap. It would enable me to pay my rent and bills and whatever I work for would buy food, car, holidays for my kids etc. It’s an incentive to work because no one could live on the basic income amount, so you would have to work. It would also massively boost the economy as people would have money to spend on the high street, leisure and entertainments etc.

UBI would give people the security to embark on what they want to do, allowing work to be enjoyable rather than stressful, improve motivation and productivity, and reduce stress and illness

Agree with universal basic income – I think it would allow people to embark on things passionately rather than as a necessity.

It would end all issues with universal credit and other benefit systems and would end costly bureaucracy . People may opt to retire earlier opening up higher paid jobs for younger people to take up. While social mobility is still a concern. it would allow a lot of working class people to become self employed.

After reading Utopia for Realists the benefits of a basic income, financially, socially and economicallywere made so clear. I would love to see this come to pass as soon as possible!

I’m an aspiring artist without much support from family. I work and study for a better future but studying has only put me into more debt with no security and I can only afford to pay bills. I can’t afford to create music or launch any of my business ideas. Plus I have bad credit from growing up in care, living independently from 16 without any knowledge of how to budget or save.

It’s a great, tried and tested alternative to our country’s current benefit system. On top of that people will have the peace of mind required to apply themselves and help the country produce more professional, highly motivated, workers.

A basic income recognises your existence matters. It metaphorically gives back your plot of land. You are able to survive. Warm, fed and watered you have the energy and clear thinking to decide how you are able to contribute to life.

Times are changing. We really need to look at where we are going. Benefits system is flawed and exploited. More and more jobs will be automated and people will end up without meams to earn enough to support themselves.

Living is a basic right of every human. However the current system requires people to work or otherwise acquire money to live a normal life. This is an illogical system where people by default are in a situation they cannot survive. Money is trapping and slaving people, killing original innovation and happiness. Universal basic income gives us back the right to live the life the way anyone wants without having to spend 50% of their wakeful time at work just to have money to live the other 50%.

Let’s be honest, the world is miserable as on average everyone hates going to work. Those who don’t go to work either have to have benefits or become homeless. What kind of system is it that needs everyone to do a thing they hate to live? This is 21st century, surely we are smart enough as a civilisation to live a normal life without having to worry constantly over food or shelter or whether our children will have warm clothes.
