Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays
  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century
  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Me and my wife would actually be able to enjoy life a bit more with the extra money and when we have children we would have hopefully cleared our debt quicker

Replace the demeaning and complicated benefits system with this (which could cost a lot less.) Would future-proof the workforce and put power back in their hands and away from corporations that seem determined to keep eroding workers rights.

It is essential and fair, it will save money, reduce fraud, allow people choice , eradicate poverty, improve lives, people will be happier and more likely to engage in local communities and much more. Do it!

    (1) Give people security of income (2) Remove need for taxpayers money to be spent on contractors who manage welfare system and provide a demeaning system of work capability assessments which penalise sick/disabled/ill / vulnerable (3) Help thousands of women whose pension age increased from 60 to 66/67 years , very unfair when UK pensions are lowest in EU and most EU countries have equalised age for state pension at 65 years

I support this. But seems a dream. It would help a lot of people at the lower end. Give them the basic income they deserve, living in a first world developed country. It would be an equal pay. Get people on their feet. It’ll help them prepare for a job, buy clothes, books courses etc. It would also put food on the table when you trying to find a better job or take a course to better your chances. It would also encourage more spending equals more tax received by the government. So it could fund its self a little. People working can pay for education and training and adapt to the future. There’ll be a much more advanced workforce. No one can ever say they didn’t have the equal opportunity. As you can work and still receive benefits so you can better yourlife. It would remove stigma of claiming benefits from the people who really need it.

    How can it be funded:

Removing the whole benefit welfare system. And introducing basic income.

Would remove a whole government department and make a small trimmed department who just do the admin side and pay everyone. (job centres, department of work and pension) As it is not means tested it does not require bureaucracy etc.

It would in turn reduce NHS doctors and hospital appointment as seen in studies. People use docs for sick notes etc. Have work related stress. Financial stress. Etc. Stress is a main factor for being unwell and mental health.

I support the basic income as i feel it would be much better for the economy, business wage bills would be smaller as they would only have to add to basic income meaning they can become bigger and everyone gets the chance to become what they want to be and succeed instead of struggling in a job they don’t want

No one in our affluent society in this abundant world should struggle for a home and daily essentials. The current system is hugely degrading and judgmental. I believe creativity will flow and the majority of people really do want to work, hoewever navigating the current system is exhausting. I have been a single parent for a long time. My ex chose not to financially contribute to his children’s lives and there was nothing I could do about that. I know first hand how different it would have been not to feel ashamed to claim for assistance to live. I never did before. Life could have been so different with a Basic Income and for anyone still in that position…it is the future generation they are caring for and guiding.

I’ve been an artist all my life and managed to survive on an extremely low income but it’s been a real struggle as sometimes months will go by without selling a painting. However, my art is my passion and over the decades I’ve painted many hundreds of beautiful paintings that have given people great joy and can be passed on for generations. It’s sad that most people would rather spend £500 or more on the latest smartphone (which will only last a few years) than a beautiful work of art. If I had a basic income I would be able to keep painting without struggling to pay for electricity to keep warm in winter etc. I know many artists, musicians and composers in the same position – really struggling and yet they produce the most amazing work which enriches humanity.

The current benefits system doesn’t work. Let’s look at a new idea which will bring hope, freedom, confidence and opportunity and breathe life back into our local communities.
