Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

The welfare system is broken. Endless tinkering has not helped. It’s time for a modern solution to a modern challenge.

Because our current economic model is broken and is leaving too many people struggling to make ends meet, marginalising them in the process. The nature of much work is low paid and insecure causing instability and uncertainty for many… We need change

In a broken elitist corrupt financial system many suffer needlessly. We are all equal and deserving of the planets abundance including the disabled, tired and poor. Time for equality and new way. Money is a system invented by man and needs to serve all not the few.

To end the shame and stigma of having to ask for enough to survive, especially for those whom circumstances are already difficult. Freed from shame, guilt and anxiety, who knows what we can accomplish?

It makes sense and when asked “how will we pay for it” point the naysayers to research the Bradbury Pound !

It’s the time now for Universal Basic Income to be included as a basic human right. The issue of automation is at stake.

I can think of more ways to make a positive difference to society (and more meaningful to me) after a stroke other than the threat of shelf filling for the rest of my working life. Basic Income NOW please. I am not work shy but I would like to be allowed to look after myself and heal without anxiety. I know I have so much to give but please, please, please on my terms

It will accelerate innovation in sustainability by reducing the fear of failure, allowing individuals to focus on global matters rather than having to support themselves

I believe UBI is the only viable alternative, especially for the growing number of over fifties like myself who find themselves unemployed and find it increasingly difficult to find work.

I have been hearing an ever growing mumble about the subject for sometime, so I thought I’d do a bit of research into it from the perspective of cyborg anthropology and AI automation. I just wrote a blog post on the matter which you can read here [ https://www.rockdoverehab.com/blog/2017/7/23/on-cyborg-anthropology-citizen-journalism-and-the-universal-basic-income-in-relation-to-ai-automation ].

In the up and coming paradigm shifting world we are about to be presented with because of job loss due to ever growing automation, I think the UBI is one of the more substantial ways of protecting society as a whole in the coming decades. That and life long education for everyone to retrain and reassert themselves into an ever murkier and challenging future, which goes hand in hand with the idea of a UBI.

Public wealth has been created over generations by our ancestors but the benefits are increasingly falling into the hands of a tiny minority who inherited the means of production. I see basic income as the fairest route to a more equitable, just and happier society. I’m am currently carrying out a small research project as part of my MBA, looking into the philosophy vs practicalities of UBI, and am in search of further research opportunities.

I believe it is economically viable. Consolidating most benefits into one single Universal Benefit instead of what we have and the physiological effect benefits imbues, creates a separate class. It won’t replace disability benefit of course. Not only that but it would improve the lives of young people dramatically as not only will they be able to move anywhere in the UK as soon as they are entitled to UI but it means people could spend time being unemployed to work on what they want or just relax as long as they are willing to live in a simple rented flat. As someone who has been unemployed it isn’t the fun party people think it is. Having nothing to do is dank and depressing. However, young people need to be encouraged to do work they enjoy. If schools continue to make work seem like a punishment for being alive there is a risk that a fraction of young people may become segregated and not want to work. Work should be encouraged, not discouraged. Not only that, they should be encouraged to come up with new businesses and create new jobs and industries of their own giving them an obvious choice to want to work, not mindlessly conform to a drudging life of working in a rat race. It’s about an emergent society, not established as the state is constantly out of date, This would make society adaptive, organic and therefore natural not artificial.

There is not enough work for everyone to have a job, especially a job that has meaning and enhances life. Too many people are stuck in work that underpays and over-works, lining the pockets of employers and corporations that are all too often practicing unethical and immoral methods in the production of unnecessary goods – clothing manufacturers in countries such as Bangladesh; Coca cola, Macdonalds – we do not need their crap clothes, crap food and sugary drinks which diminish life expectancy and create unbearable working conditions (Sports Direct etc). Universal Basic Income would free people to do things they find meaningful, which would ultimately create a better community and society for everyone.

No man can be truly free if he has to degrade himself by doing meaningless tasks just to afford basic shelter and food. UBI would unleash an incredible pool of creativity, speed up automation and create a fairer and more equal society.
