Our mission

We believe that now is the time for the United Kingdom to reform its benefit system and to base it on a Universal Basic Income (also known as a Citizen’s Income).

Universal Basic Income would provide financial security for all, so that everyone has the resources they need to fulfil their potential. We urge others to express support for the principle of a Basic Income with the aim of making it an issue in the next General Election. Basic Income is a regular payment made to every individual, not means tested, non-withdrawable and without work conditions. It would :

  • Guarantee everyone a secure base which ensures that work always pays

  • Replace the complex benefits system with a scheme fit for the 21st century

  • Provide us all, including people who need extra income related to sickness, disability and housing, with the freedom to develop and contribute our talents, and the dignity we all deserve.

With your support we can press politicians to back this idea and make it a key campaign issue at the next General election.

If you agree with us please endorse the above statement and we would also love to hear why you support a basic income.

Means tested benefits do not work, people made redundant should not have to jump through hoops to get basic financial support. People with disabilities should not have to jump through hoops to get basic financial support. A system where a guaranteed minimum income is provided would encourage self improvement in many, would allow working parents to be more flexible with working hours and spend more time with children. Eradicating the vast and complex administration costs involved in the current benefits system would pay for a large portion of a basic income. The Uk tax system also needs a massive overhaul and simplicifation. Finally, and most importantly the chance to eradicate poverty and homelessness cannot be passed on. Unfortunately Concepts such as UBI will only be considered by a forward thinking, liberal and sensible government which we in the U.K. Sadly lack. If our current gorvernment did implement such a system they will do it half arsed find a way to make it unworkable.

To replace the appalling benefits system, (and all the money wasted in it’s implementation) put an end to poverty, and to make sure work always pays.

AFTER MY ENDORSENMENT, I HAVE TO ADD: WHY DOES IT SAY THAT I ENDORSEDVIA JAMES”???? I AM ENDORSING VIA NOBODY. What is this ? I ask the webpage manager to write to me, to my email, about this. If BI doesn’t start with respect for people, it will create no positive change, and hell on earth will go on, for the most humans., particularly women.

If it is well done, and if the amount of the basic income is really enough to live well, then Basic Income has the potential to change our Economy of Evil into an Economy of Good – an economy for the common good. The advantages are then, too many to mention! It will open many doors of change for better in our work culture. It has the potentiality to add flexibility, lightness and humanity to work.

Contrary to what many people think, it will make it possible that many, really many people who otherwise can not work, find and create work.

One advantage I didn’t hear about, is also that it makes possible for thousands or millions of abused women, to restart a good life. Reducing thus an immense amount of crime and domestic violence.

    It boosters economy !

It will create jobs, for many, IF IT IS a GOOD amount of MONEY, and helped out, will create their small businesses, or get together with friends to do it, while others will be looking for temporary jobs. There are many things which are very interesting to do, if only for some time, to learn them, and which are best learned, simply by doing them while being shown how.

REAL BASIC INCOME, if we are aware of how it could also be used in disavantage, and don’t let that happen. IS GOOD. It’s really good.

Conclusion: If the money is too little, then, it doesn’t allow for the above mentioned positive creative changes, which are that people can actually learn, create, and produce more.

This is a great idea it would put poverty into the history books, it would give people their self asteam back and and their worthiness back, it would also save money considering the amount of it that goes to the upkeep of the current system . Crime would be lower the Nhs would save and most of all the poor would save their mental health and not have to struggle everyday to live in a rich country. The only down side is the tories would never allow as they like to keep the poor under their feet.

I support it as I cant see a reason to not support it. However it should only be for UK born citizens and people who have worked here and contributed for at least 10 years as if its for everybody it would turn into a free for all

After I watched a British TV documentation about your current benefit system I not only support the German UBI campaign but also the Brisith. I was shocked to see how people are treated by a British job centre. Aparrently the system literally let people starve only because they can’t work anymore due to sickness for example. A shame!

that way everyone has a chance and less room for people to claim things they shouldn’t be. If done correctly it should help reduce poverty in the UK and maybe even possibly cut down the amount of benefits paid out each year, if basic living wage is in action i would believe there would only be exceptional circumstances for people to claim housing benefits as you will already be receiving an income to cover your housing costs (rent).

The skilled admin work I did twenty years ago is now all done by computers. The work I do today will be rendered obsolete soon enough. If your labour gets devalued, and you can’t find a buyer for it, then what? Employment becomes a game of musical chairs, with more and more people getting excluded.
